HONORS UNITED STATES AND VIRGINIA HISTORY
Course Number: 2360H
Grades: 11
Prerequisite(s): SOL/EOC Test Administered
World History II/World Geography
Honors U.S. History is a rigorous course designed for highly motivated individuals. The course is
designed to address the SOL objectives while preparing the students for future AP and Honors
courses. United States History focuses on the historical development of American ideas and
institutions from the Age of Exploration to the present. While focusing on political and economic
history, this class provides students with the basic knowledge of American culture through a
chronological survey of major issues, movements, people, and events in the United States and Virginia
history.

Materials Needed: You will need a pencil/pen and a notebook everyday in class.

Grading Policy: Grades will be determined by using a point system. For example, homework grades are
usually worth 10-20 points while tests and projects are usually worth 100 points. Expect homework to be
assigned Mon.-Thurs. If you do not do homework and/or classwork there is a very good chance that you will fail this course. It is also important that you study on your own before tests.  It is your responsibility to take notes during class. There will be a research paper assignment for this class, which will be completed in stages.
Any student with a grade below 70 should spend extra time with the teacher working to improve their grade. Re-tests, late work, and extra credit assignments will not be accepted after the final exam.

Makeup/Missed/Late Work Policy: There is no excuse for not making up a test
-Homework/classwork missed due to absence is expected within 3 days of the posted due date.
-Some homework (DBQs, discussions, research paper pre-writing) can be turned in late with points deducted. Assignments over a month late will not be accepted.

King George High School HONOR CODE:

honest with myself and with others in thought, word, and deed. I will not participate in, encourage, or
condone cheating in any form.”

Academic Integrity

Students are required to fully commit to academic integrity and agree to the following set of expectations:

  • Students are expected to verify that the work on each assignment is their own
  • Collaborating with another classmate on any assignment must be pre-approved by the instructor
  • Students may not plagiarize in any form
  • No student may allow others to copy his/her work
  • No student may misuse content from the internet
  • No student should store coursework on a public or shared network drive

If a student plagiarizes work in any manner, the student is subject to disciplinary action including possibly being given a zero for that assignment. Additional consequences may also be enforced at the discretion of the local school counselor or principal.

Composing Emails and Netiquette
In the online learning environment, most communication occurs solely via the written word.  As a result, body language, instantaneous listener feedback, voice, and tone are absent.  Therefore, when contributing to the online environment, please remember the following online etiquette, also known as "netiquette":

  • Respect others and their opinions

  • Word choice is important (sarcasm should not be used as it may be misinterpreted)

  • Think before you hit the send button

  • Do not type in all caps (as this is considered the same as shouting or screaming)

  • Always compose discussions and emails using your best grammar skills (proper capitalization and punctuation)

  • Use a proper greeting and closing when composing emails to both instructors and other students

  • Always include a subject in the subject line when composing an email
